1000 Years of Sejarah Melayu in Singapore traces the long and fascinating history of the Malays through archaeology, royal chronicles, and historical records. Moving from ancient references to modern Singapore, author Sarafian Salleh explores how Malay identity was shaped by migration, trade, faith, and cultural exchange across the archipelago.

Using Singapore as a historical lens rather than a colonial starting point, the book reconnects the island to the wider maritime world centuries before 1819, highlighting the diverse communities that built an evolving civilisation. Blending meticulous research with decades of heritage work, it challenges familiar assumptions and explores why the story of Melayu matters in Singapore today.
