Foreign donor requirement:
First-time foreign donors, before registration, are required to confirm that they will be residing in Singapore for a minimum period of 3 months post donation before they can be registered for blood donation. This requirement, however, does not apply to repeat foreign donors who last donated within 12 months.
For blood donations in Singapore, you are required to provide your residential address details (valid for 3 months from your intended donation date) for registration and a contact number by which we can contact you in case of an emergency or if clarification is needed
Foreign Donor without fixed local address:
For guarantor’s undertaking in FormSG, there is one version which is filled in by donor and another version filled in by guarantor. Both versions must be filled in before a donor (without Singapore address) can be considered for registration. Both versions require SingPass log in. For the version to be filled in by donor, the donor must use his/her SingPass to log in. For the version to be filled by the guarantor, the guarantor must use his/her SingPass to log in.

Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) Restriction
Effective 2 October 2023, donors with geographical risk exposure to vCJD (stayed or lived in the United Kingdom, France, Ireland and other European countries during the affected period) can now make apheresis donations (plateletpheresis, plasmapheresis or double red cell donation). Apheresis donation is only at the Bloodbank@HSA.
Apheresis donation is a specialized donation method where specific blood components, such as platelets, plasma, or red blood cells, are collected, while returning the rest of the blood to the donor.
The following donors are still not eligible to donate blood:

When Not To Donate
You are advised to postpone your blood donation if you’re currently undergoing treatment for a major illness or surgery, or (for women) if you’re pregnant or experiencing heavy menstrual flow.
What to Bring:
Please bring along your Official photo identity document (e.g. passport, IC, driver’s license, work permit, donor card, Singpass Digital IC) with a local residential address.
Estimated time for blood donation:
Each blood donation process takes around approximately 60 minutes to complete from start to end.

To be eligible for blood donation, you must:
- Be in general good health
- Weigh at least 45 kg
- Aged between 16 and 60 (Youths aged 16 and 17 will need to complete and bring a signed original parental consent form or get their parent/ guardian to fill the parental consent form link)
- Not have had any symptoms of infection e.g. sore throat, cough, runny nose or diarrhoea for at least 1 week.
- Not have had a fever in the last 4 weeks.
- If you have taken Antibiotics, wait at least 1 week.
- Have a haemoglobin level of at least 13.0 g/dl for males and 12.5 g/dl for females. If your haemoglobin level is below the minimum limit, you will not be eligible for blood donation and can return only after 28 days. (A fingerprick test will be administered by trained nurses at the donation site)
- Have you taken medication, herbal supplements or traditional herbal remedies in the
last 3 days?- You can donate blood if you are taking brewed herbs such as ginseng and lingzhi.
- If you have taken Traditional Chinese Medicine, including herbal extracts, you should wait at least 3 days. For more information or if you need further clarification, please call 6213 0626 and speak to our medical staff.
- If you have COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019), you must not donate blood. Please wait 28 days after the first positive PCR or ART result before donating blood. This is to ensure that you have recovered completely and is fit for donation.

Donating Blood:
- If you have travelled overseas recently, please call Singapore Red Cross at 6220 0183 or check “Travel overseas” in the above link to check your eligibility as visiting or travelling to different regions of the world may make you ineligible to donate blood for a period of time. This is because some infections caught abroad can be transmitted through blood transfusion.

a) Malaria-endemic
For example, donors who have recently visited and stayed at least one night in malariaendemic areas (e.g. India, Batam, Bintan, Myanmar) will be deferred for a period of 4 months. However, donors who visited a malaria endemic area for a short “day trip” are not considered to be at risk and can donate as per normal.If you stayed overnight in a malaria-endemic area, you need to wait 4 months from the date of return to Singapore before donating blood.

For Malaysia:
- Malaria risk is present in rural areas (village, forested areas, agricultural areas, plantations and small islands) in all states of Malaysia.
- Malaria risk is present in the states of Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, Terengganu.
- There is no malaria risk in cities and towns in the other states in Malaysia (including the resorts in Desaru, Genting and Cameron Highlands).
b) West Nile Virus
Donors who have recently visited West Nile Virus endemic areas e.g. (list not exhaustive)- Turkey, France, Italy (please check for affected cities)
- United States of America (please check for affected states)
- Canada
