
Sensei Eugene Koh holds a 5th Dan Black Belt (Godan) and a Renshi-Shihan (Master) title awarded by the International Karate-Do Goju-Kai Association (IKGA) based in Tokyo, Japan. Sensei Eugene is one of the few Karate coaches in Singapore who is a World Karate Federation (WKF) Certified Kumite and Kata Coach. In addition, he is an Asian Karate Federation (AKF) Qualified Kumite and Kata Judge ‘A’ and has a full referee qualification from the Karate-Do Union of Singapore (KUS), the NSA of Singapore Karate.
During his younger days as a competitor, Sensei Eugene had an extensive list of achievement. This includes holding the record of winning back-to-back gold medal in Kumite in the 2001, 2002 and 2004 Pesta Sukan National Championships. At an international level, Sensei Eugene was the captain of Team Goju-Kai (Singapore) at the 3rd Asian-Pacific Goju-Kai Karate-Do Championships (Perth, 1999) where he won a bronze medal in Male Team Kumite and during the Karate-Do Goju-Kai Singapore Asian-Pacific Championship (Singapore, 2000), he won a bronze medal in the -60KG category. In 1999, Sensei Eugene represented Singapore to compete at the 4th Asian (AKF) Senior Championship held in Singapore and went on to compete at the 2001 21st Southeast Asia (SEA) Games in KL, Malaysia.
After retiring from competitions, Sensei Eugene moved on to be a coach. He is a NROC Registered Coach and holds a NCAP Theory Level 3 certification from Sport Singapore. He is the Head Coach of Karate-Do Goju-Kai Singapore (KGS) and conducts training at Bishan, Changi-Simei and Nee Soon Central Community Clubs, as well as at ActiveSg Pasir Ris Sports Centre. With well over 20 years of coaching experience under his belt, Sensei Eugene has taught and trained many successful Karate athletes who won medals at multiple national championships and international events. Apart from his fruitful coaching endeavors, Sensei Eugene actively contributes to the Karate community as a referee and judge during competitions.
As the former Head of Coaching at KUS, Sensei Eugene nurtured and trained up national athletes who are currently representing Singapore for various major international competitions. This includes events such as the WKF World Senior Championship, WKF Karate-1 Series-A, WKF Karate-1 Youth League, AKF Senior Championship, AKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championship and Southeast Asia Karate (SEAKF) Cadet, Junior, U21 & Senior Championship. Since March 2023, he has been appointed as the Technical Director of KUS.
