Harrywanto has been a silat trainer for more than 10 years. He has learnt a few forms of silat style and obtained training locally and in Indonesia. He started being a trainer and an ambassador of Silek Harimau Minangkabau in Singapore in 2015. In 2016, Silek Harimau Minangkabau has been affiliated by Singapore Silat Federation. As he is an Executive Member of Rivervale Gardens RC, he conducted silat class under the Silat Interest Group voluntarily as a means to share knowledge. He teaches silat techniques of West Sumatra such as Self Defence, Artistic & Performances, Empty Hand against weapon, and Silat combat sport for competition.

Silat is a traditional Malay martial art used for self-defence. Some forms of Silat employ native weapons, others lay emphasis on unarmed combat. The aspects of Silat emphasises self-defence, mental and spiritual discipline, the importance of traditions and its status as a sport. With a wide variety of defence and attacking techniques, practitioners may use hands, elbows, arms, legs, knees and feet in attack movements.
