Shariff Bin Dasuri is a very talented Silat exponent who started pursuing his interest in 1989. Since then he has honed his skills in Silat, emerging champion in numerous competitions held by PERSISI. In 997 Shariff represented Singapore in the World Silat Championship in Malaysia. The same year he was selected to represent Singapore in the SEA Games which was held in Jarkata, Indonesia. After switching to refereeing in 2002, he attended international courses in Bangkok, Thailand and was awarded with a certificate for refereeing and jurorship in 2005. In a national competition held later that year, he was acknowledged as the best juror of the competition. Currently he is one of the Masters teaching the Malay martial art with trainees under his wing emerging champions themselves in competitions held nationally and internationally.

Silat is a traditional Malay martial art used for self-defence. Some forms of Silat employ native weapons, others lay emphasis on unarmed combat. The aspects of Silat emphasises self-defence, mental and spiritual discipline, the importance of traditions and its status as a sport. With a wide variety of defence and attacking techniques, practitioners may use hands, elbows, arms, legs, knees and feet in attack movements.
