Course Description

Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) is used widely in the Deaf community in Singapore. SgSL
comprises of Shanghainese sign language, American sign language, Signing Exact English
and local signs.
Sign Language for Communication is to be renamed as Sign Language for Communication
Level 1. The course consists of 9 lectures on Deaf community, language and culture to raise
the awareness among the participants in the course and 9 sessions on practice in signing.
The course is in total of 10 weekly sessions consists of vocabularies for the purpose of
communicating with Deaf and hearing signers in Singapore Deaf community. There will be a
simple test at the 10th session of the Sign language for Communication Level 1.
Sign Language for Communication Level 1 will be conducted by Yeo Chi Jin, Alfred and Goh
Jwee How, Kelvin. The participants can expect to advance to Sign Language for
Communication Level 2 after they pass the test and get the certificates of their attendance.
