Course Description

Over the years, teachers have used a variety of approaches to teach reading and writing to children. Today, a phonics approach is used in varying degrees in most reading methods.

A phonic approach to reading stresses the relation of the letters (graphemes) to the sounds (phonemes) they represent. This approach also encourages phonemic awareness through speech and drama, and classroom activities. In this way, the child will make connections between the visual and audio inputs, thus emphasizing precise pronunciation.

The incorporation of English grammar, vocabulary, comprehension & composition enhances the programme as students proceed to the primary level. This will also be applied to mathematics (addition & subtraction) to widen the scope of learning.
