Course Description

As we celebrate the Western celebrations of Christmas, let us look back at our own local Ethnic dances and learn more about their beginnings, traditions and stylistic movements.

Week 1: Chinese Dance
Types of Chinese Traditional Dance: Miao, Dai, Mongolian, Tibetian

Week 2: Malay Dance
Types of Malay Traditional Dance: Asli, Inang, Joget, Zapin

Ethnic fusion dance is taking traditional dance movements and incorporating them with modernised dance movements. Taking excerpts from the form, structure and vocabulary of traditional dances, participants are able to incorporate their own interpretations and emotions to the movements and create their own dance vocabulary. These dances will allow participants to develop cultural and social awareness as well as understanding more of the ethnic groups in Singapore.
At the end of the session, students will be able to perform basic ethic dance movements with fusion modernised movements.

Participants to be in comfortable sports attire.
