Tan Kim Lian has ABRSM Grade 8 certificates in Violin and Theory of Music and an Erhu certificate from Central Conservatory of Music (China). 

He is a professional Erhu Musician with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra since 1975. 

Under his guidance, a local primary school won Gold medals for four consecutive Youth Music Festivals.

Erhu is a two-stringed Chinese musical instrument which is played with a bow. It can be used as a solo instrument or,  in a Chinese orchestra where it serves as a violin.  Participants learn the skills of playing this instrument in a small group. They may have the opportunity to join an existing Chinese orchestra at a community centre or club when they have acquired sufficient skills and experience.
