Course Description
Bharatanatyam is a South-Indian classical dance form featuring intricate footwork, complicated hand gestures, and elaborate facial expressions. It conveys stories and feelings through its dynamic movement that's sharp and crisp, as well as soft and elegant, depending on the essence of the depiction.
The session will start with a 10 minutes warm up which includes energetic, strength building exercises like jumping jacks, squats etc to prepare students for the movements, ensuring safety and readiness of the body. The next 20 minutes will be intense physical movements, where students learn the basic steps (64 Adavus) and hand gestures and meanings. In the next 20 minutes, students get into groups and use the steps and gestures they learnt to innovate new steps/stories and choreograph, eventually performing it for one another.
Requirements and Remarks:
Students will be notified if classes are postponed or cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. There will be no class on public holidays. For further information, please contact the CC office at 67832900 between 10am and 6pm daily, the office is closed on public holidays. Payment is to be made before the class commences.
