Course Description

This course is specially for children who are keen to learn more about Aikido, a Japanese form of martial art based on the principles of universal harmony created by Morihei Ueshiba. It is not primarily a system of combat but rather, a means of self-cultivation and improvement. The goal of aikido is not the defeat of others, but the defeat of the negative characteristics which inhabit one's own mind and inhibit its functioning. It combines practical self-defence movements taken from sword and spear fighting, jujitsu, aikjutsu and other ancient, more esoteric forms of martial arts. It emphasises centralisation of thoughts and actions and the extension of mental energy (qi). Participants will learn aikido with the mind and body unified as well as qi exercise, breathing and meditation.
